In Ekk Tha Tiger the protagonist, Ravi, is a rags-to-riches success story. After his father's death, he leaves his life in New York to come back to India and take over the family company. But on his return he finds that everything has changed - new international competitors have brought about sweeping changes in India’s business world since his departure. It looks like he will have to learn how to adapt quickly or find himself out of a job, which is not an option for him given that he decides it’s time for him to go into politics after making a personal promise with his father that someday something would happen for him. And so, without realizing the dangers and the changes he’s about to encounter, Ravi embarks on a journey to discover what he really wants in life. The story is based on the real-life experiences of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The film's director, Kabir Khan, had previously directed the 2008 blockbuster "Krrish", starring Shah Rukh Khan in similarity with his character of Ravi in Ekk Tha Tiger. "Ek Tha Tiger" was released worldwide on 19 December 2016. It was released in Russia followed by Russia 2 days later on 21 December 2016 which was dubbed into Russian. It was released in Italy on 25 December 2016 followed by Brazil which was dubbed into Portuguese. However, the film was banned in Austria due to showing an anti-monarchist image. The film was released in India across 600 screens on its opening day. It has grossed Rs 73 crore at the end of its run in theaters worldwide. "Ek Tha Tiger" received universal acclaim from critics and audience alike for its expressiveness, direction, acting, sincerity and gripping story line. It won many awards and nominations including six Filmfare Awards and two CineMAA Awards and is widely regarded as one of the biggest commercial successes of 2016. The movie opened well across the country and especially in the international market. It was released across 600 screens, made Rs. 73 crore ($11 million), and collected Rs. 132 crore ($21 million) at the end of its run in theaters. "Ek Tha Tiger" grossed $19,000 from its first Friday (from only 69 screens) and $1 billion from its first weekend (from only 225 screens). The film was shown at over 3700 screens worldwide and collected a total of $5 million from 35 countries including USA and Canada (where it has grossed over $2 million). It placed fourth in the domestic box office and third at the overseas box office. The movie has been made into a Tamil dubbed version by UTV Motion pictures under the same name "Ek Tha Tiger" to be released on 29 June 2017, before its release in Telugu as "Ekkadu" followed by another dubbed version in Hindi as "Dharti Ke Lal". The dubbed versions also happened to be produced by Kabir Khan who directed the film. It was released on June 10th, 2017. Following its success at the box office, a sequel titled "Ekk Deewana Tha" is expected to be released on November 8th, 2018.
